Six-Pack of Summer Sweetness – Swerve and KitchenAid Giveaway

Low Carb Strawberry Hand PiesSummer goes by far too quickly, and it only seems to get faster and faster with every passing year.  Here we are in August already, which means summer is more than halfway through and the school year will is creeping up.  I went to shopping the other day because I needed some more t-shirts and tanks, and I could barely find any.  They were all tucked away in the clearance section, with only odd sizes left in each colour, while the racks were filled with heavier clothes already heralding the change of seasons. I am simply not ready for this!  I feel this way every year, but I want to hang on to summer and enjoy it a bit more.  I want to go to the beach and run through the sprinklers with my kids.  I want to grill out and eat al fresco and sip cold drinks on the patio.  Of course, I can still do all of this for a few weeks yet, but it already has that sense of rushing by me and slipping away before I can catch my breath.

Low Carb Chocolate Raspberry Gelato

One of the best parts of summer is the availability of so many fresh foods.  Our growing season is pretty short up here in New England and I always try to make the most of summer produce.  I am sure I’m not the only one, I bet plenty of you are cramming in all the fresh goodies while you can!

Now the good people at Swerve Sweetener want to help you eke out the last little bit of summer sweetness.  We’ve been chatting for a while about having me host another giveaway and they are remarkably generous.  I said that offering up free product would be enough but they didn’t agree with me.  So we settled on also giving away one of my favourite KitchenAid tools, the Five Speed Hand Blender.  I have one and I adore it.  This is not just some little immersion blender; it’s the ultimate all-purpose kitchen item, and it runs the gamut from chopping to whipping to blending.

KitchenAid 5 speed hand blender

And on top of that, Swerve wants to give the winner not one, not two, not three, but SIX bags of granulated Swerve.  That’s why we’re calling this the Six Pack of Sweetness giveaway.  You will be set to make all of your favourite low carb summer desserts with this prize, and I daresay you will be able to make some fall and winter desserts too!

You don’t need to do much more than leave a comment to enter this giveaway, but I am going to ask you to help me out a bit on one thing.  I have long been trying to get Swerve to be more active on Pinterest, and I know many of you have Pinterest accounts.  It’s just such a perfect fit, because food is such a visual medium and there are so many wonderful desserts and treats that can be made with Swerve.  So you will also have the option of following Swerve on Pinterest for two bonus entries.

Sugar-Free Mango Cream Popsicles

I started a Pinterest board called Potential Swerve Makeover Recipes, because I think it’s such a versatile sugar alternative.  There are so many sweet treats out there just begging to be made sugar-free. If you want to be a part of that group board, just leave your Pinterest handle in your comments and I will happily add you!

She said she can always taste the artificial sweetener in my cheesecake, and wondered if I’d gone off my diabetic diet! Thank you, Swerve!!!

I have only just started reading this blog, and so far only tried 2 recipes. I tried the broccoli cheddar soup, which requires a blender, and I don’t have one…so I had to use my tiny 4 cup food processor (resulting in a giant mess). 69. liz says

There’s too many recipes to choose from! I’m saving up for an ice cream maker, and the cookie dough ice cream recipe blew my mind, and made me realize how much I NEED that machine!

Anything chocolatey with peanut butter, like those popsicles you’ve recently posted (I saw them last night and realized that though I have popsicle makers from IKEA, I might need a few more molds for those..) are my go-to sweet. Another favorite is some low-carb granola mixed into a light nut butter cream (for which I use Justin’s brand, and my favorite flavor of all is the vanilla almond).

    Thanks for hosting the giveaway!

You rock.

  87. Stephanie Hsieh says

I’m not sure what I’d try first – but looking through your blog gives me hope that healthy eating isn’t draconian. :) I’d love to try one of your ice cream recipes!
I’d love to be added to your pinterest board too… it’s the same as my email, I think.

    • Carolyn says

It’s not draconian at all! It can be incredibly indulgent, although you do have to be careful you don’t go overboard. But it’s so high fat and filling, you usually aren’t tempted to overeat.

  88. Laura says

I am a beginner at low carb baking. I would love to make muffins for my husband’s breakfast every day! The possibilities are exciting! Pinterest lc8022

  89. Wendy says

Hmmm, I’d make brownies or cookies! Since going low-carb, I have been craving some baked goods and have not tried any measure-for-measure sugar replacements.

  90. Marcia says

I love Swerve I use it in everything that calls for sweetener. I love making Fat Bombs with it. It would be awesome to win some – and the stick blender is cool too. Kitchenaid is amazing!

    • Carolyn says

At home, this would be very tricky. Working milk solids into chocolate requires some heavy duty equipment to not end up with an awful, gritty texture.

  91. Kathy says

We had a large family party this weekend and I made your Nanaimo Tart (with Swerve), and I think that it is my favourite low carb dessert! Because you are enthusiastic about Swerve I ordered both types on line (wish that they had a brown sugar substitute too), and they have worked well in everything I have made, and best of all, no “tummy” troubles. I do have a question though, which I emailed Swerve, but no answer yet…perhaps you could advise me Carolyn? “I purchased both granular and powdered Swerve and have been very happy with both of these products. I find that the powdered Swerve dissolves more easily, and wonder if there is any application in which the granular would be superior, or could you just use powdered for every recipe? It would be more convenient to just stock one type, but if a recipe called for granular, how much powdered would you use? The powdered seems to have more volume for the same weight of granular, so I’m thinking that you would need to use more of it”. Winning the hand blender would be awsome, but I would be thrilled with just the Swerve prize!

    • Carolyn says

Hi Kathy – They are usually so good at answering questions but you know what? This is the kind of question they would send my way anyway! 😉 Here’s my answer…the granular is going to be best in recipes that depend on the crystalline structure. For example, cake recipes where you cream the butter with the sweetener, because that helps whip small air bubbles into the butter before adding other ingredients. The powdered won’t do that so you will end up with a slightly heavier product. Typically, you can sub them 1 for 1 (even if the volume and weight are a little different). I do this a fair bit when I am running out of granular. I also find that the powdered seems to have more fiber and can over-thicken things a bit. I’ve used it in caramel and didn’t like the end result as much as the granular.

      Does that help?

  92. Kathy says

I forgot to mention that I do have a Pinterest account, but I’m not sure of what I’m supposed to include in this entry…sorry for being dumb… I did “follow” the Potential Swerve Makeover Recipes…is that what I needed to do?

  95. P.J. Stietz says

I use a bullet blender, which I love, but need something more versatile. The Kitchen Aid blender sounds perfect!

  96. Angie J. says

I am a huge smoothie fan so that would definitely be the first thing I would make. I have been doing a decent job of giving up sugar which has limited my deserts..I could go for some ice cream ; )

  97. Beth Endres says

I was just looking at the Swerve website but what I wanted to try was out of stock! This would be great to win!

  98. Mary says

I would first make your Dark Chocolate Almond Bark, and then something using each of the five speeds just for the enjoyment factor. Have you ever made 30 second mayonnaise?

    • Allison Roebuck says

I would use it to make anything I can use it for. And I love swerve…no aftertaste like splenda or trivia. :)

  99. Theresa says

With Fall right around the corner, I would use the blender to make some curried lumpkin soup. I would love to make some ice cream & biscottis too.

  100. minky says

Oh my goodness, I would want to make every single recipe on your blog, each one looks amazing! I’ve never tried swerve, would love to use in all the yummy sweet recipes here! And the kitchenaid mixer would be a Godsend!

  101. Anne says

I already use Swerve Sweetener in all my sugar-free, low carb baking. They don’t sell it here in California, but it’s the only sweetener I like so I order it online!

    • Carolyn says

they are working on getting into stores all over the east coast, but it’s best to buy online for now. Use my DREAM10 code and you get 10% off.

    • says

Great news! Whole Foods Market in your area will have Swerve on their shelves starting in September. Also, if you visit the DC area you can find Swerve at the Yes! Organic Market locations around the city.

  102. Lisa fournier says

Carolyn, your food makeovers are inspiring, and delicious. Swerve has changed my desserts from berries and whipped cream back to cakes and donuts. I’ve never been able to tolerate the taste of stevia alone, and I’ve made Swerve believers of most of my friends.
One of my hobbies is doing recipe makeovers. Please add me to the Pinterest board. Lisafspicks

  103. Sherie says

I would make some kind of cheesecake concoction for sure!! It’s been ages since I had a good cheesecake!

  104. Rina says

Swerve is my favorite sweetener! I use Swerve daily making fresh jam, cupcakes, cookies, muffins, puddings, and especially cold treats! I use Swerve to sweeten delicious coconut milk (or organic cream) lime sherbet, chocolate, cherry, vanilla, peach, or nectarine ice creams and popsicles. Just a little touch of Swerve enhances the flavor in all my frozen treats. One of my favorite all time treats is your condensed milk. Swirl a little heavenly dark chocolate in a couple of tablespoons of homemade condensed milk, (caramelized condensed milk works too),and drizzle over a microwave GF LC Swerve sweetened cupcake in a minute for an easy dessert. Taste testing the chocolate sauce is mandatory prior to topping the cupcake, just leave enough to drizzle.

  105. Angela Boehm says

I just ordered swerve for the first time a couple of weeks ago and have been enjoying trying it out in all of it yumminess!

  106. Vanessa says

I love Swerve I hope they continue to make this healthy sugar alternative available even more readily so everyone can enjoy it!

  107. Tonnia Williams says

I am currently using Splenda as a substitute for a lot of my type 1 diabetic daughters “sweet” snacks. I would love to give Swerve a try. I have not found it in any stores around here.

  108. Christine says

I would definitely try and make some sort of ice cream or fudge – and for the immersion blender the possibilities are endless!!

  109. Nancy says

I would make some of your chocolate raspberry gelato! Yummo! I have a Pinterest account but have no idea what my handle is! I haven’t totally figured that site out yet! The name that appears on my boards is Nancy but somehow doubt that’s my handle. If you have time to enlighten this technically challenged foodie, I will comment again with my handle :) If not, no wories! Love your site!

  110. says

I got my first bag of Swerve not too long ago. I haven’t tried many of your recipes yet, but have many of them pinned. I love to make desserts with sugar alternatives. It gives me such peace of mind to eat my desserts.

  111. Margi says

Carolyn, there are so many recipes of yours I love, it’s hard to pick just one — but I especially love the Boston Cream Cake, the matcha Popsicles, the yummy pie crust for the hand pies/and regular pie crust, too! The recipe I have queued up is the chocolate birthday cake. YUM! I already tell everyone I know about your deliciousness but I will pin more. :)

  112. Jamie says

I’d use the mixer to make whipped cream to pour over a yummy low carb chocolate cake that’s sweetened with Swerve.

My mom and I used to make a recipe from Pampered Chef for Broccoli Bars. It had a biscuit crust with a mayo/sugar/apple cider vinegar sauce and was topped with broccoli, bacon, sunflower seeds, and gold raisins. I’d love to swap out the sugar for the Swerve and use the hand blender to mix it all together so I could make little personal size servings instead of a huge batch.

  114. Peggy Cole says

I would make your Boston Cream Pie again, and I hope to try your recipe for low carb sweetened condensed milk!

  115. Sarah W. says

I just learned that I have a gluten intolerance and found an article about you in a diabetic magazine. I love your recipes, they have made the transition much easier. Carolyn in today’s email you show a picture of what looks like a Cantalope Popsickle. Where would I find that recipe?? What is the name. I somehow missed it whenever it was posted. Please respond.

    • Carolyn says

It’s a mango creamsicle. It’s not low carb, but I made them as a healthy snack for my kids. With Swerve, of course.

  118. Monica says

My two recent fave uses for Swerve are red velvet cheesecake and a giant log of low carb cookie dough to slice and store in freezer for snacking.

  119. Nancy Patterson says

I would make an awesome Flourless, Sugarless Chocolate Cake recipe I have from Suzanne Somers. It’s decadent, but a little involved. A hand mixer would help tremendously!

I just received my Swerve samples the other day. I can’t wait to start using it in some of these delicious looking recipes, perfect timing!

Hi! Love your blog! We must have been separated at birth because I, too, dream about food all day long! Tried Swerve for the first time this past weekend. I knew if you used it than it had to be good! Seriously, it’s your blog (and a few others) that inspire me and keep me preparing healthy and delicious meals for my family. I’ve learned so much from you, and I am extremely grateful to you. If I won the Swerve, I’d try making the hand pies–they remind me of my grandmother’s recipe. My Pinterest handle is KHSlovesDJS. Thank you!

Carolyn, for some strange reason, and I don’t know if this is a fault with my computer or your site, but I am unable to read your response to my question for August 6, 2013, at 7:15. The text of your answer is superimposed over my question so I cannot decipher it, and there is this same problem with all the other responses from there on down to the end of the post, although everything is clear earlier. Since I am intensely interested in your advice, could I ask you if you could send your answer to my email address? Thank you so much…kind regards, Kathy

I love Swerve and would use it to make apricot and plum jam. My stock is getting low with all your wonderful recipes. I have to admit that I have to lower down the quantity of it because my tolerance for the mint aftertaste seems to be not as good as you.

  139. Monica says

I would love to try swerve. I am in need of a new sweetener for my coffee. The sucralose gave me headaches and the Stevia takes away the flavor. I also am in need of the 5 Speed Hand Blender as I am new to being Gluten Free and need it for making all of the delicious recipes I’ve been bookmarking to make.

  150. Shelly says

I’ve just gone low-carb/gluten-free at the advice of my physician within the past few weeks. I’m struggling a little, mostly because I’m a (now former) self-professed sugar junkie. I miss my sweet treats dearly and your blog has been a tremendous resource. Whatever I’m craving, there’s a recipe with delicious results! And six bags of Swerve plus Kitchen-Aid would make a happy girl of one who thought she was about to leave baking behind. : )

  151. Linnea says

My blender has been broken for a while and I would love to be able to blend things again. This gadget looks like it would replace a few in the kitchen! And I LOVE swerve, any sugar free dessert tastes great without weird aftertaste!

I love your blog. I just recently have had to change to a gluten free and sugar free diet and your blog has been a life saver. Before I finding your blog trying to cook/bake gluten and sugar free was over-whelming. I also, just the other day, check into Swerve as a sugar substitute. I’m anxious to give it a try as the sugar substitute I’m presently using doesn’t appeal to me or my husband (trying to keep him happy too : ))
I’m going to create a Pintrest recipe board that high-lights Swerve and the using it in recipes…mostly yours! Thank you for this opportunity to receive some bags of Swerve and a nice hand-held mixer…wanted one for a very long time. I’m particularly anxious to try making your Chocolate Mousse Parfait with chocolate chip cookies and fresh raspberries…yummy!

  167. says

Hi Carolyn, I really like your blog. I’ve just recently had to change to a gluten and sugar free way of eating. Until I found your blog I was finding cooking/baking in this manner quite over-whelming. Thank you for all your great recipes.
Just the other day I checked Swerve’s web-site to learn a little about their sugar substitute. The sugar substitute I presently use does not meet with my (or my husband’s) taste. I will have to order it as our health food companies do not carry it…maybe I can change that! : )
I’d like to be a part of the Swerve Pinterest board and my Pinterest account is under my name Ruth E. Chidley.
Thank you for the opportunity to be considered for receiving some bags of Swerve and a lovely Kitchen Aid hand held mixer…I’ve always wanted one.

  168. says

Sorry for the third post…my iPad went black and dropped your web-site when I logged in my original post. Since it was not there I wrote it again. Now, when I posted my comment, both posts came up…lol! Oh the fun of the web cyber-space!

  169. Janna says

I love your site and ideas, and I want to try Swerve but it isn’t sold in my area. Finding out I have Celiac disease and my husband is diabetic has led us to a low carb/gluten free lifestyle, and many of your recipes (especially the Raspberry scones) have been a wonderful addition to my cooking repertoire.

  170. Marianne says

I would use the Swerve to make low-carb strawberry shortcake and the hand blender to whip farm-fresh cream to go with it. Yum!

  171. says

My boys and I love to make cupcakes with Swerve, but I can’t deny that I’d love the hand mixer to whip up some homemade lotion!

  172. Don Lewis says

I have been loyal to Kitchenaid brands for years. I especially enjoy using my Kitchenaid blenders to make delicious smoothies. I’m actually ordering some more Kitchenaid blender parts
parts so that I can produce ever more great foods and drinks!
