Fall is well underway and soon winter will be upon us. Some parts of the country have even already had snow. So it’s time for hot drinks and plenty of them. Make mine a keto hot chocolate, please!
Better yet, make mine a keto salted caramel hot chocolate. Rich and frothy, with an added boost from some collagen protein, it’s seriously the best keto hot chocolate you will ever make. And it’s ridiculously easy to make, too, so you can enjoy it all winter long. It’s great for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert.
The secret ingredient for keto hot chocolate
If you haven’t tried adding collagen to your hot drinks yet, it’s time to get on that bandwagon. Because it’s a great boost of nutrition and protein. And it’s said to be good for joints, hair, nails, and skin, especially as we age and lose collagen from our bodies.
And I am going to go ahead and recommend the Perfect Keto collagen protein. Do yourself a favor and get the flavored kind. More specifically, go ahead and get the Salted Caramel. You will thank me later, I assure you.
I hope you know by now that I don’t take my recommendations lightly. I don’t want you to waste your money and I consider it part of my job to test things and tell you what works and what doesn’t, what tastes good, and what you should just dump in the trash.
Well this stuff is GOLD, my friends. Keto gold. I use it on a daily basis now, adding it to the milk/cream combo I froth for my cappuccinos.
And when I added it to my keto hot chocolate? Mind blowing!
How to make keto hot chocolate without the fancy products
But if you don’t have or don’t want to purchase this particular ingredient, I understand. While I honestly can’t recommend it enough, I know that there are so many keto products out there and we all have limited means.
So you have a couple of options here. If you have plain collagen, you can use 1 tablespoon of that, plus 1/4 teaspoon caramel extract. You will need to sweeten it more, because plain collagen has no added sweetener whereas the flavored varieties do.
If you don’t have collagen at all or don’t want to add it, I recommend adding a teaspoon or more of butter to the blender, to boost the nutrition and fat content, and to make the drink more filling.
More tips for frothy keto hot chocolate
Get your milk, or your milk and cream combo, hot hot hot before adding it to the blender. Simply the act of blending it up will cause it to cool down considerably. But you can’t beat a good blender for a frothy delicious drink.
If you have a hand blender or one of those little handheld frothers, you could try using that instead. Make sure to submerge them fully in the liquid, because they splatter like crazy if they are at the surface.
Collagen is a key ingredient for super frothy, rich hot chocolate. If you prefer to go without, that’s fine but your drink may not be quite the same.
If you want to make a dairy free version of this keto hot chocolate, you can replace the heavy whipping cream with 2 tablespoons of coconut cream.
Other great products from Perfect Keto
I haven’t tried the full line of products but there are some I love and some I don’t. I’m not a fan of the exogenous ketones and the bars are a bit hit or miss for me.
Perfect Keto also has a delicious new line of keto nut butters, which are delicious and come in easy squeeze packs.
