New Year’s Eve is almost here and I say it’s time to get your keto cocktail on. This Spiced Pear Cocktail is a fun and flirty way to ring in your sugar free new year.
Today I bring you a fun keto cocktail recipe created by the hilarious women behind Boozy Ketones. If you’re on Intagram at all, you NEED to follow these women. They are wildly irreverent and amazingly creative and I love seeing what they will come up with next.
I get such a kick out of them, I asked if they would be willing to create a low carb cocktail recipe for All Day I Dream About Food, and they were more than happy to oblige. Be sure to check out
But before I hand things over to them, let’s tackle the all important question. Can you drink alcohol on a keto diet?
Keto Alcohol – Can you or can’t you?
I lean toward yes, because I am fully keto and I drink alcohol on an almost nightly basis. Mind you, it’s typically a single glass of red wine, except on special occasions when I might indulge in something else.
But that glass of wine doesn’t kick me out of ketosis at all, and it actually lowers my blood sugar. I know this because I test both of my ketones and blood sugar regularly. While I am not advocating for you to follow my lead, I think it’s good to know that a very moderate consumption of alcohol doesn’t necessarily impede ketosis.
But there are some things that you should be aware of:
Drinking alcohol on a keto diet can slow down your weight loss. This is because when you have alcohol on board, the body focuses on metabolizing that before using any stored body fats. Interestingly, this is why it also lowers blood sugar. The body recognizes alcohol as a toxin and the liver starts working through it and stops putting out glycogen.
Really, it comes down to what your goals are. Are you doing this for weight loss? Or are you simply trying to manage your blood sugar? Even if you are trying to lose weight, you can have a drink on a special occasion and get back on track quite quickly.
Be forewarned that people on a keto diet can get intoxicated much more easily than a carb eater. So be mindful of how much you consume and how quickly you are drinking it. Sip slowly and set yourself a maximum from the start of the evening. It’s also smart to eat a little something while you sip, since that will help slow down the alcohol absorption.
Alcohol disrupts sleep hormones and other hormones. This right here is why I do not drink more than my one glass of wine most of the time! I can’t afford not to be well rested and even two glasses can really mess with my sleep.
Alcohol can deplete important electrolytes like magnesium, potassium, and sodium. So be sure to make up for it with some daily supplements! I am currently taking a great electrolyte supplement called Keto Shield.
Best Alcohol for a Keto Diet:
Obviously you want to steer clear of the cocktails and drinks that are heavy on the sugar and carbs. Sorry, friends, but this includes most beer, even the “gluten free” ones. And many cocktails served in bars and restaurants are sweetened with sugars like simple syrup, honey, and agave.
Stick to hard liquors and dry wines, and make your own cocktails at home with keto friendly ingredients and sweeteners.
I recently found some fun sugar free mixers from Be Mixed that are sweetened only with erythritol, monk fruit, and stevia. I haven’t tried them out yet but I might be taking some to our annual New Year’s Eve Party. Keto Moscow Mules on me!
Boozy Ketones Guest Post
Hello! We are Lisa and Erika, two sisters who had been doing Keto for a year and got tired of vodka La Croix very early on. We have dedicated a good portion of our time to ketofying cocktails for the cause. For New Year’s Eve, we’ve paired up with our muse @fooddreamer to celebrate until the end of days!
For us, going out on NYE is too hard; we’re all about those house parties forever. Then you can go to bed whenever you want (for us that’s 9pm), and you get to control what goes in your glass and stay on track!
Up your NYE champagne game with something a little unexpected. You spend all that time on the food; the drinks are just as important (I would argue more so)!
This cocktail is super simple, you only need to make the spiced pear infusion a couple of days in advance, then mix it with chilled champagne as your guests arrive.
It’s spiced, flavorful, and tastes better than failed resolutions feel.

New Year's Eve is almost here and I say it's time to get your keto cocktail on. This Spiced Pear Cocktail is a fun and flirty way to ring in your sugar free new year.
- 1 ripe pear Sliced
- 1 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced into coins
- 2 cups gin or vodka, if you prefer
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 ounce Spiced Pear Gin
- 3 ounces dry champagne chilled
-
Place the pear and ginger in a mason jar and top with gin. Let infuse for 2 to days, shaking every so often.
-
On the third day, add the cinnamon sticks and continue to infuse for 24 hours. Then strain and store in the fridge for up to 6 months
-
For every drink, add 1 ounce of spiced pear gin to a champagne flute and top up with champagne.
It is very difficult to know the exact carb count of the pear infused gin but this recipe assumes that about half of the pear macros enter the gin.

It says to infuse from 2 to ___ days. How many max amount of days? This sounds interesting. Thanks for fixing the recipe!

This does not need to be posted, just as an FYI,
Calories: 76 kcal is incorrect
The k should be dropped it should be just 76 cal not 76 thousand cal
Carolyn says
Actually, kcal and Calories are exactly the same measurement. It does not mean 1000 calories. https://www.weightlossresources.co.uk/calories.htm

What is the difference between calories and kilocalories?
The “calorie” we refer to in food is actually kilocalorie. One (1) kilocalorie is the same as one (1) Calorie (upper case C). A kilocalorie is the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of 1 kilogram of water one degree Celsius. Please visit USDA’s Nutrient Data Laboratory for additional information.

Looks like the link for the old fashioned is also the mojito. I can easily google, but I’d love to try your recommendation.
Thanks in advance

Thank you!

Does the infused vodka with pears need to be kept in the fridge during the three day infusion process?
Carolyn says
I would not… it will infuse faster if you leave it at room temp.
Lynn says
Can I use jarred pears packed in water instead of fresh pears? Fresh can be hard to find in my area.
Carolyn says
I can’t see why not!
