A tender low carb pastry filled with sugar-free chocolate hazelnut spread. This delicious Nutella Braid makes an elegant addition to your holiday table.
It happens every year. Every dang year! You’d think I’d know better by now. After all, I do have 43 years of life experience behind me. But every year, it happens. Those darn holidays manage to sneak up on me and I am left scrambling. No matter how much I vow to get ahead, no matter how much I promise myself it won’t happen again, I am taken by surprise. Didn’t 2016 just start? I swear I just started managing to write the correct date in my cheque book. How can it be December already? And how do I manage that slight sense of panic that I still haven’t finished my holiday shopping?
Oh, you too? Well, at least I am in good company. And I have a little tip to share that may save us all a little precious time and effort. Walmart reached out to me asking me to try out their new online grocery ordering and pick-up system. This is a brand new service and since I know many of my readers shop at Walmart, I was happy to give it a try. Plus I needed a little something to aid me in my own panicky last minute “how do I get it all done???” moments. On the whole, I give the service a thumbs up for ease, convenience, and cost.
Really, all you have to do is register. The service itself is free and it was quite literally door to door service. I didn’t even need to get out of my car (although I did, because I felt guilty having the lovely young woman load my car for me. Apparently I am not good at services like these!). Ordering was simple.
Step 1: Book a time that you want to pick up. Be sure to do this step ahead of time…at this time of year, things can book up quickly.
Step 2: Find what you need. It’s all categorized nicely and there is a great search function, so it’s easy to find what you need.
Step 3: Enter your payment information. They send you an email confirmation with all the pertinent details of the store you chose and how to find the designate online grocery parking spots.
Step 4. Drive to the store and let them know you are there. You can download their app, but if you don’t have a smartphone, you can simply call the number once you are there.
Step 5. Go home and bask in the sensation that you just completed some of your holiday shopping. Believe me, you will feel like a #groceryhero.
Oh and did I mention that it’s much more than just groceries? They’ve got a holiday shop with decorations, wrapping, and many other things you might need. They even have a few gift ideas for you. You can check out all the products they offer at Walmart Online Grocery.
Now for another little tip to get through the holidays…this delicious low carb Nutella Braid for your holiday brunch. It looks very elegant and sophisticated (and like you slaved over it for ages) but is actually quite easy to make. My whole family loves it so much, it doesn’t last long. Apparently they’ve inherited my love of chocolate and hazelnut!
Many thanks to Walmart for partnering with me to bring you this post. I was compensated for my time and my honest review of Walmart Online Grocery.
Walmart Online Grocery Pick-up Service

- 1 recipe Magic Mozzarella Dough from Cinnamon Twists
- 1/2 cup homemade sugar-free chocolate hazelnut spread OR store-bought sugar-free chocolate hazelnut spread such as Nuti-Light
- Powdered Swerve sweetener for sprinkling
-
Spread a large silicone mat or a piece of parchment paper on a work surface. Sprinkle with a little almond flour. Turn dough out onto work surface and pat into a rough triangle. Top with another piece of parchment and roll out into a 15x12 inch rectangle.
-
Spread the dough with the sugar-free Nutella, leaving a 1/2 inch border all around. Roll up tightly from one edge and pinch to seal the seam.

Cut the dough down the center, leaving one end intact. Twist the two strands around each other, making sure to keep the cut side of the strands up toward the top. Pinch the ends together.
-
Transfer the whole parchment or silicone liner to a baking sheet and bake 20 to 25 minutes, until the braid is firm to the touch and golden brown.
-
Remove and let cool, then sprinkle with powdered sweetener.

I’m not really in favor of this service…it will rob people of their cashier jobs.
Soon we won’t have a choice we will have to shop this way.
Not a fan.☹️
Kat says
Our local grocery store has this service. They have to hire someone to take the items off the shelf for each order. Still seems that people are needed?
Carolyn says
Yup, with the packers and the people who bring out your order (and call you to let you know your order is ready), I am pretty sure this would create more jobs. Most people will still do their own grocery shopping anyway, but this certainly helps in a pinch!

I love nutella and the sugar free version is a total hit with my family as well! I can’t wait to give this a try. It looks delicious! (Also wanted to let you know that there appears to be an error in your link for sugar free nutella in your recipe ingredients. Pretty sure it’s the opening curly brace { instead of the opening bracket [ to reference your link. )
Carolyn says
All fixed.

Thanks for another great recipe, Carolyn! I use your recipes often, but rarely comment. However, I have a question this time. I want to master this one, because it’s so pretty! I made this today, but wanted a savory bread, rather than sweet. So, I made it without the sweetener in the dough, added a little garlic and spread it with pesto instead of Nutella. My layers did not stay together after cutting the roll and trying to twist it….it all came apart and I had to place it back together on the pan. I realized after it went in the oven, that I forgot to add the egg! Would that have been a factor in why it fell apart? It still tastes wonderful and doesn’t even look too bad, after baking – kind of came together again, albeit not close to as pretty as yours!
Carolyn says
Yes, leaving out the egg would be a problem! As long as it tastes good, though…
Patti says
