Summer goes by far too quickly, and it only seems to get faster and faster with every passing year. Here we are in August already, which means summer is more than halfway through and the school year will is creeping up. I went to shopping the other day because I needed some more t-shirts and tanks, and I could barely find any. They were all tucked away in the clearance section, with only odd sizes left in each colour, while the racks were filled with heavier clothes already heralding the change of seasons. I am simply not ready for this! I feel this way every year, but I want to hang on to summer and enjoy it a bit more. I want to go to the beach and run through the sprinklers with my kids. I want to grill out and eat al fresco and sip cold drinks on the patio. Of course, I can still do all of this for a few weeks yet, but it already has that sense of rushing by me and slipping away before I can catch my breath.
One of the best parts of summer is the availability of so many fresh foods. Our growing season is pretty short up here in New England and I always try to make the most of summer produce. I am sure I’m not the only one, I bet plenty of you are cramming in all the fresh goodies while you can!
Now the good people at Swerve Sweetener want to help you eke out the last little bit of summer sweetness. We’ve been chatting for a while about having me host another giveaway and they are remarkably generous. I said that offering up free product would be enough but they didn’t agree with me. So we settled on also giving away one of my favourite KitchenAid tools, the Five Speed Hand Blender. I have one and I adore it. This is not just some little immersion blender; it’s the ultimate all-purpose kitchen item, and it runs the gamut from chopping to whipping to blending.
And on top of that, Swerve wants to give the winner not one, not two, not three, but SIX bags of granulated Swerve. That’s why we’re calling this the Six Pack of Sweetness giveaway. You will be set to make all of your favourite low carb summer desserts with this prize, and I daresay you will be able to make some fall and winter desserts too!
You don’t need to do much more than leave a comment to enter this giveaway, but I am going to ask you to help me out a bit on one thing. I have long been trying to get Swerve to be more active on Pinterest, and I know many of you have Pinterest accounts. It’s just such a perfect fit, because food is such a visual medium and there are so many wonderful desserts and treats that can be made with Swerve. So you will also have the option of following Swerve on Pinterest for two bonus entries.
I started a Pinterest board called Potential Swerve Makeover Recipes, because I think it’s such a versatile sugar alternative. There are so many sweet treats out there just begging to be made sugar-free. If you want to be a part of that group board, just leave your Pinterest handle in your comments and I will happily add you!

I’m not sure what I’d try first – but looking through your blog gives me hope that healthy eating isn’t draconian. 🙂 I’d love to try one of your ice cream recipes!
I’d love to be added to your pinterest board too… it’s the same as my email, I think.
Carolyn says
It’s not draconian at all! It can be incredibly indulgent, although you do have to be careful you don’t go overboard. But it’s so high fat and filling, you usually aren’t tempted to overeat.

Linda says
ice cream, coffee cake, chocolate anything.. A question – is there a way to make sugar free milk chocolate. My family doesn’t favor dark chocolate.
Pinterest: [email protected]
Carolyn says
At home, this would be very tricky. Working milk solids into chocolate requires some heavy duty equipment to not end up with an awful, gritty texture.
Kathy says
We had a large family party this weekend and I made your Nanaimo Tart (with Swerve), and I think that it is my favourite low carb dessert! Because you are enthusiastic about Swerve I ordered both types on line (wish that they had a brown sugar substitute too), and they have worked well in everything I have made, and best of all, no “tummy” troubles. I do have a question though, which I emailed Swerve, but no answer yet…perhaps you could advise me Carolyn? “I purchased both granular and powdered Swerve and have been very happy with both of these products. I find that the powdered Swerve dissolves more easily, and wonder if there is any application in which the granular would be superior, or could you just use powdered for every recipe? It would be more convenient to just stock one type, but if a recipe called for granular, how much powdered would you use? The powdered seems to have more volume for the same weight of granular, so I’m thinking that you would need to use more of it”. Winning the hand blender would be awsome, but I would be thrilled with just the Swerve prize!
Carolyn says
Hi Kathy – They are usually so good at answering questions but you know what? This is the kind of question they would send my way anyway! 😉 Here’s my answer…the granular is going to be best in recipes that depend on the crystalline structure. For example, cake recipes where you cream the butter with the sweetener, because that helps whip small air bubbles into the butter before adding other ingredients. The powdered won’t do that so you will end up with a slightly heavier product. Typically, you can sub them 1 for 1 (even if the volume and weight are a little different). I do this a fair bit when I am running out of granular. I also find that the powdered seems to have more fiber and can over-thicken things a bit. I’ve used it in caramel and didn’t like the end result as much as the granular.
Does that help?

Swerve is my favorite sweetener! I use Swerve daily making fresh jam, cupcakes, cookies, muffins, puddings, and especially cold treats! I use Swerve to sweeten delicious coconut milk (or organic cream) lime sherbet, chocolate, cherry, vanilla, peach, or nectarine ice creams and popsicles. Just a little touch of Swerve enhances the flavor in all my frozen treats. One of my favorite all time treats is your condensed milk. Swirl a little heavenly dark chocolate in a couple of tablespoons of homemade condensed milk, (caramelized condensed milk works too),and drizzle over a microwave GF LC Swerve sweetened cupcake in a minute for an easy dessert. Taste testing the chocolate sauce is mandatory prior to topping the cupcake, just leave enough to drizzle.

I love your blog. I just recently have had to change to a gluten free and sugar free diet and your blog has been a life saver. Before I finding your blog trying to cook/bake gluten and sugar free was over-whelming. I also, just the other day, check into Swerve as a sugar substitute. I’m anxious to give it a try as the sugar substitute I’m presently using doesn’t appeal to me or my husband (trying to keep him happy too : ))
I’m going to create a Pintrest recipe board that high-lights Swerve and the using it in recipes…mostly yours! Thank you for this opportunity to receive some bags of Swerve and a nice hand-held mixer…wanted one for a very long time. I’m particularly anxious to try making your Chocolate Mousse Parfait with chocolate chip cookies and fresh raspberries…yummy!
Ruth E. Chidley says
Hi Carolyn, I really like your blog. I’ve just recently had to change to a gluten and sugar free way of eating. Until I found your blog I was finding cooking/baking in this manner quite over-whelming. Thank you for all your great recipes.
Just the other day I checked Swerve’s web-site to learn a little about their sugar substitute. The sugar substitute I presently use does not meet with my (or my husband’s) taste. I will have to order it as our health food companies do not carry it…maybe I can change that! : )
I’d like to be a part of the Swerve Pinterest board and my Pinterest account is under my name Ruth E. Chidley.
Thank you for the opportunity to be considered for receiving some bags of Swerve and a lovely Kitchen Aid hand held mixer…I’ve always wanted one.
Ruth E. Chidley says
Sorry for the third post…my iPad went black and dropped your web-site when I logged in my original post. Since it was not there I wrote it again. Now, when I posted my comment, both posts came up…lol! Oh the fun of the web cyber-space!
Jean says

I love your site and ideas, and I want to try Swerve but it isn’t sold in my area. Finding out I have Celiac disease and my husband is diabetic has led us to a low carb/gluten free lifestyle, and many of your recipes (especially the Raspberry scones) have been a wonderful addition to my cooking repertoire.
Marianne says
I would use the Swerve to make low-carb strawberry shortcake and the hand blender to whip farm-fresh cream to go with it. Yum!

My boys and I love to make cupcakes with Swerve, but I can’t deny that I’d love the hand mixer to whip up some homemade lotion!

OK, thanks! I’m used to blogs updating the original post or having a new post completely, so good to know! Off to order some Swerve on my own. ha!
