So it would seem that instead of moving to Portland, Oregon, my husband and I accidentally moved to Southern California by mistake. I am not quite sure how one mistakes one whole state for another like that. I mean, we were certainly aiming for the Pacific NorthWest and our airplane tickets said PDX on them. Or at least I thought they did, but perhaps my old eyes are worse than I thought. Or maybe we got on the wrong plane somehow and landed 1000 miles south of our intended destination, and mistook San Diego for Portland. I don’t know what happened, but here we are and it’s definitely not Portland. 90 degrees almost every day this June and not a drop of rain. And more of the same in the forecast – sunny clear skies as far as the eye can see. That’s my proof that we are definitely not in Portland anymore, Toto.
This current weather pattern is worrisome, to say the least. Every day, I find myself looking into the forecast, eager to see some hope of rain on the horizon. It actually stresses me out a bit, as I worry about whether this might be a harbinger of the future. And I really don’t like being this hot all the time. I don’t do well in anything over 80 degrees. I melt a little bit every day.
However, if this is the new normal, I will take consolation in one thing…maybe Oregon will be a great place to grow avocados in the future. I can’t say I would mind that! I’d plant about 5 of them in my backyard and eat them all day long. But for now I am more than happy to get my avocados from California, as they seem to do a pretty good job of them down there. Mmmmmmmm, avocados.
