Crio Bru Brewed Cacao is a wonderful alternative to coffee. And I am giving you the chance to win some for yourself!

Early Happy Mother’s Day, my friends.

Three bags of Crio Bru Cacao on a white table.

I make no secret of my love for coffee, and I have no plans to give it up any time soon. But that doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy other hot beverages too!

I recently decided to give Crio Bru® a try, for something a little different. The ads for it kept popping up on my Facebook feed (thanks, Facebook!) and I was intrigued. So I ordered a starter pack and got brewing.

And while nothing will ever replace coffee in my heart, it really is delicious stuff!

An open bag of Crio Bru with the ground cacao spilling out of it.

    What is Crio Bru®?

Crio Bru is a unique hot beverage made from ground cacao beans. Yep, the same beans from which we get chocolate (my other great love!). If you’ve ever had a cacao nib, then you have eaten cacao beans.

Crio Bru roasts the cacao beans first, to bring out a deep chocolate flavor. And cacao beans are harder than coffee beans, so they don’t grind as finely. But you brew them in a similar fashion, adding hot water to extract the flavors into a thin liquid.

You can make Crio Bru in your own coffee maker, although you do need a gold filter rather than paper. I used the French press method.

A cup of brewed cacao on a wooden platter, with red flowers and a bag of Crio Bru.

    What does it taste like?

While the resulting drink looks like weak coffee or tea, it tastes like dark chocolate. It’s unsweetened, of course, and I enjoy it just as is. I am one of those crazies who loves strong, dark chocolate and black coffee.

But of course you can add sweeteners and cream, or anything you normally add to your coffee. The infused drink isn’t nearly as dark as coffee, so it looks a little less impressive, but the flavor is distinctively chocolate.

And like coffee, Crio Bru offers varietals from different countries, along with some flavored versions and seasonal varieties. They had a mint chocolate version for the holidays and I wish now I had purchased some!

I had to give up coffee because it upsets my stomach anymore. And I love my flavored coffee drinks. But I miss not having a warm drink when I wake up. I would to try Crio Bru as I am a huge fan of Dark Chocolate. Always have been, even when I was younger. I always went for the dark chocolate. Good Luck to everyone! Blessings!

I’m not a coffee drinker, but I love warm drinks like herbal tea and cocoa. I’d like to taste how this compares.

I’m not a coffee drinker, but I **love** dark chocolate. My husband drinks coffee and is always trying to get me started, but I don’t enjoy the flavor. It would be nice to have a drink similar to coffee to enjoy with him.
