This year, we celebrate just the red and the white with healthy, low carb desserts for Canada Day. And even if you’re not Canadian, you will want to devour them all!

Low Carb Keto Desserts for Canada Day. Celebrate like a true Canuck with these healthy, sugar-free treats!

So in two days time, my country, my homeland, the True North, Strong and Free, will turn 149 years old. Okay, so that’s not any kind of special birthday really, but now that I live stateside, I don’t always mark its passing. Because let’s face it, the vast majority of my readers are American and Americans tend not to really know or care about Canada Day. But I feel like doing a little flag-waving this time round, because I heart my birthplace and I love being Canadian. It’s a pretty cool place (and no, I don’t mean in terms of temperature) with a pretty cool history and some really cool people in it (including my parents and all of my siblings).

Canada Day isn’t like Independence Day. Unlike our fierce neighbours to the south, we became a country in a much quieter way. We just sort of merged a few different British colonies into one new country and called it a day. And then, as time passed, we added a few other colonies here and there until we stretched from the Maritimes to the Pacific Coast and way up into the reaches of the Arctic. But just because we didn’t fight our way into independence from Britain doesn’t mean we aren’t fiercely proud of our heritage. It’s a very Canadian thing to demure and hold back but to still have strong feelings and an iron will. Plus we are very humorous people and we like to make fun of ourselves. Probably some of the funniest and most loved comedians in the US are Canadian. Yes, you’re welcome!

So, to celebrate our quiet, demurring, funny, fierce, proud, and strong-willed country, let’s eat some dessert. Healthy sugar-free dessert! It wasn’t easy finding 25 low carb desserts for Canada Day, so I stole a little idea from many 4th of July celebrations and went with anything in our Candian Flag colours of red and white. Which means I ended up with a lot of berries and cheesecake…again, you’re welcome!

  1. So I didn’t check your site around Cda day, but you do have at least this Canuck following your blog! Happy belated Canada Day!

  2. Hope you had a nice Canada Day. I celebrated by making your Nanaimo Bars. Thank you for the recipe! It is fabulous! I upped the sweetner in the crust and it turned out perfectly! Thank you, thank you! I grew up in Toronto but now I live in the States. I miss my Canadian treats. I can’t wait to try your Butter Tarts recipe and the maple cookies. Now if you could come up with a Coffee Crisp knock off, I’d be set for life!

    1. LOL! I will work on the coffee crisp… 😉

  3. Sharon B. says:

Happy Canada Day, Carolyn! I was only there once; 43 years ago, for my (our!) honeymoon at Niagara Falls. We should get back up there some day.

  4. These look wonderful, and the ones I’ve made already were excellent! And I gotta say, I have a bit of a love affair with Canada. I consider it to be one of the most beautiful places in the world and one of my favorite places to visit (Quebec City. . . Holy cow! Amazing!). I even spent my honeymoon in British Columbia. I may be American, but I’m celebrating with you. I love our talented, friendly, fun neighbors to the north!

    1. Thanks, Melanie. And Happy Canada Day!
