Want a low carb burger recipe that’s going to blow your mind? Try topping your grass fed burgers with creamy peanut butter and crispy bacon. It’s a keto flavor explosion! No, I am not kidding… This post is sponsored by Safeway.

Peanut Butter and Bacon Burger on a lettuce bun

Ready for a delicious flavor explosion this summer? I know a few of you might think I am a little nuts with these Peanut Butter and Bacon Burgers but believe me, it works. It more than works, it comes together in a meltingly salty sweet way that will surprise you.

Food and eating shouldn’t always be simply about sustenance. It should be about experience and enjoyment, and sometimes even pushing your boundaries. Unusual flavor combinations can take what would be a ho hum experience and make it over-the-top good. Quality ingredients are also critical to making it a truly enjoyable experience. These crazy delicious burgers have got both going on.

Now let me be the first to admit that peanut butter and bacon together is not an unusual flavor combination in my world. I’ve been eating that since I was a kid and my mum would make us peanut butter and bacon sandwiches as a treat. If you’ve never had them together, you’ve been missing out. The warm bacon melts the peanut butter and sends it oozing everywhere. The saltiness unctuousness of the two together is just so hard to describe. But it’s sensational and you won’t believe it until you try it.

Drizzling creamy sugar-free peanut butter over a burger

I had seen burgers with peanut butter on them and thought it sounded delicious. And then Safeway challenged me to make a summer meal with their exclusive Open Nature® line of products. As I said, quality ingredients can often make the difference between a plain old meal and a true experience, and the quality of Open Nature is exceptional. All their products are minimally processed, with no additives, artificial ingredients, or hydrogenated oils. These kinds of clean products fit perfectly with how I feed my family. And Open Nature products are available in my area exclusively at Safeway and Albertsons stores.

Since it’s grilling season, I gravitated directly toward the meats and picked up a few packs of the delicious Open Nature grass fed beef. I find that when ground beef is good quality, it needs nothing more than a little salt and pepper to turn it into juicy burgers. Then I grabbed a jar of the Open Nature Old Fashioned Creamy Peanut Butter. I love that this natural peanut butter is salted, as so few of them are. It’s got great flavor and is wonderfully creamy.

I lingered over the bacon, as I was tempted by the Open Nature Jalapeno flavored uncured bacon. I thought it best to stick with the regular Applewood Smoked Uncured Bacon for this little burger experiment, but I bet that extra kick of heat could be really good. Can I confess that I actually bought both kinds? And a two pack of the Open Nature paper towels, made from recycled paper, to sop up the grease.

And then I fired up the grill and got to work. As I said, just a little salt and pepper was all that the burgers needed. I fried up the bacon, and I melted the peanut butter slightly in the microwave. I mixed in just a little sweetener, because I love that salty-sweet combo, but the peanut butter is also very good on its own.

I put it all together in a lettuce wrap. I ended up eating mine mostly with a knife and fork, because that melty peanut butter drips everywhere! But oh…I’d forgotten just how good peanut butter and bacon are together. And combined with a grilled burger? Wowza!

Are you looking for high quality clean products for your summer barbecues and get-togethers? Look no further than the Open Nature line. It’s great quality at a great price and they have a wide range of products to suit your lifestyle. I buy my Open Nature products at my local Albertsons and Safeway stores, and you can also find them exclusively at all of the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Shaw’s, Star Market, and Carrs/Safeway. Ingredients

  • 8 slices Open Nature Applewood Smoked Bacon
  • 1 lb Open Nature Grass Fed Ground Beef
  • Salt and pepper
  • ¼ cup Open Nature Old Fashioned Creamy Peanut Butter
  • 1 tbsp sweetener of choice optional
  • Lettuce for wrapping up the burgers if desired

Instructions

  • Preheat the grill to medium. Cook the bacon until crisp and then let drain on a paper towel lined plate.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and pepper. Mix with your hands and then form into 4 equal hamburger patties.
  • Grill the burgers until done to your liking. Mine were medium at about 3 to 4 minutes per side. Remove from the grill and let rest for a few minutes.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, melt the peanut butter for about 30 seconds (this makes it easier to spread). Whisk in the sweetener if using.
  • Spread the peanut butter over the burgers and top with 2 slices of bacon each.

We’ve been eating peanut butter & bacon sandwiches for years! Now I just have them on low carb bread instead! There isn’t a person I have got to try it who hasn’t loved it! We’ve been entering it for a Lay’s Potato Chip flavor in the contest for years to no avail! Thank you for the idea!

Years ago while visiting my sister she took me to a restaurant that serves burgers with peanut butter. And yes, WOW! But I don’t eat peanuts because they contain lectins so instead I use almond butter. Tastes great too and just as gooey!

My grandfather got me hooked on peanut butter and bacon sandwiches as a kid…. He may be gone 26 years now but those flavors make me think of him… can’t wait to try on a burger. Been trying to figure out how to do them without the bread. THANK YOU as always Carolyn

Years ago, maybe late 50s or 60s, there was a smoky peanut butter that had bacon bits in it. It probably wasn’t real bacon though. Some yucky soy product. Interesting I thought. I can’t eat peanuts either so I use cashew butter. I’m trying that on our 4th of July burgers tonight! Thanks Carolyn!

Yay, I am glad people are trying this, even if you can’t use actual peanut butter!

It sounds like a crazy combination, but it is so good! I recently ate at a restaurant that served a hamburger with peanut butter, bacon bits, sweet jalapeno relish, and cheddar cheese on it. I thought my family was insane for suggesting it, but I gave it a shot and was so glad I did. It was delicious!
