A great new app for staying in touch with distant family members. Plus a chance to win a $100 Visa Gift Card!
As you may know, I recently moved from one coast of the country clear across to the other, uprooting the lives of 3 young children in the process. This was not an endeavor that was entered into lightly. My husband and I wanted to shake things up for us and expose our kids to new and different experiences. And so we left the Boston area, which was the only home my children had ever known, for the wild and wet Pacific Northwest. We already lived far enough from our families, with my parents residing in Canada and Florida and my husband’s parents in Pennsylvania. But now we put ourselves out of reasonable reach altogether. No quick weekend jaunts for this crew.
A great new tool making this sort of far-flung family interaction much easier is HomeTeam™ by Panasonic. I was given the opportunity to test it out in beta and it’s such a fun service. It goes beyond the usual video-chatting and allows the participants to read books and play games together. Instead of those awkward, one-sided conversations with grandparents asking questions and small kids answering in monosyllables, they can connect on the level that small children love best: playtime.
I can tell you that my kids took to the app like fish to water. In fact, even before I managed to get my mum set up on HomeTeam, my kids had spirited my iPad away and were playing the games and reading the books. I had to laugh when I found that my reading-addicted middle child was already partway through one of the stories and I had to ask her to hold off until she could share the time with her grandparents.
And surely one of the roles of a grandparent is to help teach their young grandchildren. HomeTeam facilitates learning across generations with exclusive games that promote basic literacy, math and logic. Making learning fun is critical to education and HomeTeam makes this the cornerstone of the app. Now that we’ve moved, keeping in close touch with my family and having my kids know their grandparents on a real level is extremely important to me. I will use all the tools possible in my arsenal and I am delighted to have another great tool like HomeTeam to connect my parent and my children.
HomeTeam is available for download in the App Store and Google Play starting 3/24. I definitely give it a thumbs up. Check out more about HomeTeam here: www.MyHomeTeam.com
