I had never even heard of Comeback Sauce (aka Mississippi Comeback Sauce) until a few weeks ago. Where the heck have I been? Living under a rock? Very possibly! I was looking up the menu of a restaurant and saw it listed with several dishes. With such a compelling name, I had to look it up. And then I had to make a keto-friendly version!
It is pure flavor magic. I’ve been dipping, drizzling, and dunking my way through it for days on end.

Because so many commercial sauces and dressings have added sugar, I like to make my own. And often it takes no more effort than whisking the ingredients together in a bowl. That’s why recipes like my Keto BBQ Sauce or Sugar Free Honey Mustard are so beloved by readers.
But this Keto Comeback Sauce is truly something special. It takes any meal to a whole new level. I guarantee you will love it!

Ingredients and Substitutions

- Mayonnaise: This provides the creamy base of the sauce.
- Tomato paste: Comeback sauce typically takes ketchup and/or chili sauce, both of which contain sugar. I use tomato paste plus some sweetener to make up the difference.
- Sweetener: I used allulose honey for this recipe but you could easily use your favorite.
- Apple cider vinegar: Gives the sauce an extra tanginess.
- Worcestershire sauce: Adds a touch of umami.
- Hot sauce: You can add as little or as much as you like. I start off with half a teaspoon and add more to taste.
- Seasonings: Garlic powder, smoked paprika, onion powder, salt, pepper, chipotle powder, and allspice (or ground cloves).

Tips for Success
This delicious Keto Comeback Sauce comes together in a matter of minutes and it’s ready to serve right away. But a few things to keep in mind:
- Whatever sweetener you use should be powdered or liquid to avoid grittiness.
- Worcestershire sauce does contain a little sugar, but the amount used in this recipe makes it almost negligible. 1 gram of carbs per teaspoon spread out over 6 servings means it adds only 0.17 grams. If you need to be gluten-free, choose the Lee and Perrins brand.
- I add a touch of allspice to this recipe because it’s a key seasoning in ketchup (I use it in my keto ketchup recipe as well). You can also use ground cloves, or skip it altogether.
- Once the ingredients are well combined, give it a taste and adjust as you wish. I do recommend waiting a little before you add more hot sauce or chipotle powder, as the heat develops as the sauce sits.
